Hi,

Don't know if you can help me but here's my question.

Who has jurisdiction in Nassau County for traffic violations? I am specifically trying to find out whether the Village of Lake Success can set up speed traps on the LIE, and, if assuming they can, where does the village's jurisdiction end?

I received tickets on the eastbound LIE HOV lane for "speeding and then for tailgating", both at the same time from a Lake Success Village police officer. He indicated on the summons that my location was east of community Drive. He was in the grass shoulder set up with laser. I saw him come out from there. East of community drive has barriers and no shoulder. He was either passed the exit sign for exit 34 or just in line with it, I am not 100 % certain, but I think he was in the grass about 250 feet East of the exit 34 sign which is about 250 west of the new Hyde Park Bridge. He never told me why he pulled me over so I asked and he said I was speeding. When I asked him how he determined this he said I was also tailgating.

I always thought the Nassau County Highway Patrol precint 2 covered the LIE but, regardless, I think he was stationed outside of his village boundary.

Thanks for any help you can offer
